If your press will no longer hold the heat plate lifted by itself, it is likely that your stop bar and/or pivot plates have worn. You may find that the heat plate drops on its own or that it won’t lock down in place.
The stop bar (XP7006SB / BMC19/F - part number 39 in exploded diagram) is the small bar that you pull away to allow the handle to move up and down.
The pivot plates (XP7049PP / BMC19/J - part number 40 in exploded diagram) are the L shaped brackets that are a part of the handle assembly*. There are 2 pins that hold these in place. The stop bar can sometimes wear an indent into the pivot plates at the point they meet; this can make it easier for the stop bar to be pushed out of the way and allow the heat plate to drop.
*You may find that other components are worn when they have been removed. Below is a list of our part names for reference:
Outer Pin – XP7006OP / BMC19/A (exploded diagram part number 43)
Yoke Pin – XP7006AYP / BMC22/C (51)
Toggle Cam – XP7049TC / BMC19/L (50)
Circlip – XP7006CIR / BM352 (36)
