If your machine becomes unresponsive when you press the power button, follow these checks to identify and resolve the issue.
1. Inspect the Main Power Cable Connection
Ensure the cable is seated correctly and free of damage:
- Plug one end of the power cable directly into a wall socket. You must not use an extension lead for this machine.
- Push the other end firmly into the machine’s inlet until the red securing tab clicks into place.
- Inspect the cable for cuts, frays or kinks—replace if any damage is found.
2. Check that the emergency stop button is disengaged
Your machine’s safety interlock may be engaged, preventing startup:
- Locate the red emergency-stop button next to the screen and power switch.
- A raised button indicates it’s disengaged; a depressed button means the machine will refuse to power on.
- To reset, rotate the button clockwise about 90° until it springs back up.
- Once released, the machine should be able to power on normally
3. Confirm the Main Power Supply Is Switched On
Check that power is actually reaching the socket:
- If the wall outlet has its own switch, make sure it’s turned on.
- Test the socket with another device (for example, a lamp) to confirm it’s live.
4. Check the Machine’s Power Switch
Make sure the machine’s own switch is operating:
- Press the power switch on the machine; it should light up when power is flowing.
- If it does not illuminate, turn it off and on again.
5. Inspect and Replace Blown Fuses (if applicable to your model)
Two fuses may need checking—the plug fuse and the machine’s internal fuse:
Fuse Location | Rating | Replacement Steps |
---|---|---|
Plug head (UK) | 13 A | 1. Unplug and open the plug casing with a screwdriver. |
Machine fuse holder | 15 A | 1. Turn off and unplug the machine. |
Important:
- Always unplug the machine before handling fuses.
- Use replacement fuses matching both rating and type exactly.
- Keep spare fuses and your user manual in an accessible place.
6. Faulty power socket
Test another device in the same power outlet to see if this is working correctly. If the socket appears to be faulty, you can try step 7.
- If the problem does appear to be related to this specific power outlet, move the Adkins dryer to a working power outlet, or contact an electrician to have the faulty power outlet repaired.
7. Check the Mains Circuit Breaker
Locate and inspect the breaker that feeds the outlet your machine uses:
- Find your building’s breaker panel and identify the circuit labelled for that outlet.
- Ensure the breaker switch is fully in the ON position.
- If it’s in the middle or OFF, switch it off fully, then back on to reset.
- If the breaker immediately trips again (with the Adkins equipment unplugged), there’s likely an overload or short circuit on that line. In this case, stop attempting resets and consult a qualified electrician.
You can find the User Manual for your machine on the Adkins website or click here.
